About
The James & Ethel Gray Park Foundation is a South African Non-Profit Company (NPC 2019/037318/08) and Public Benefit Organisation (PBO 930066624) dedicated to the park’s sustainability, conservation, ecology, and public safety.
Purpose & Funding
The Foundation operates as an NPC and PBO to advance projects that have broad, immediate impact on the park’s sustainability, conservation, and safety.
We raise funds through personal and corporate donations, bequests, endowments, grants, and gifts, aligning with JCPZ guidance and approvals.
A Joint Initiative & Mandate
Founded by the Melrose North and Birdhaven Residents & Ratepayers Associations in partnership with Johannesburg City Parks & Zoo and the City of Johannesburg.
We deliver our mandate via programmes like fundraising, events, workshops, training, volunteer campaigns, social cohesion initiatives, and key infrastructure such as perimeter fencing and technology.
Projects
ClearVu Fencing Project
To safeguard all visitors, the Foundation has completed the installation of high-security ClearVu fencing around James & Ethel Gray Park. This vital project enhances safety, security, and serenity in the park and is now maintained by the Foundation.
- Total cost: R3.25 million for 75% of the northern perimeter, plus R1.0 million for the remaining 25% of the park boundary.
- Status: Fence installation is complete and ongoing upkeep is handled by the Foundation.
- Remaining obligation: Approximately R1 million still needs to be raised to fully settle the cost.
